Starlight Express is officially back on track in this brand-new world tour production, following a 2025 Olivier Award win for its London run!
With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, it's a thrilling, steam-powered adventure that sees trains of all types compete to become the fastest engine in the world. Alongside epic projections, brand-new songs, and more, it's big and bold - exactly as fitting for such a legendary show.
Don't wait to get your skates on for this much-anticipated revival!
Right Place, Right Time
First launched on Broadway in 1987, where it ran for 761 performances at the Gershwin Theatre and earned seven Tony nominations (winning for John Napier's legendary costumes), Starlight Express has never lost momentum. With actors whizzing around the stage singing iconic songs such as the titular Starlight Express, Only You, and I Am The Starlight, it offers a heady experience for audiences old and young.
After running for over 7,000 performances in London, Starlight Express became the tenth-longest-running West End show. It has proved particularly popular in Bochum, Germany, where it has played continuously since 1988, attracting over 20 million visitors.
What Is The Story?
Concerning a child's train set come to life, Starlight Express introduces a world where trains and coaches gear up to compete to become the world's fastest engine. Into this arena steps Rusty, a beaten-up old steam train. Can steam win out in a world of diesel freight trains and zippy new electric vehicles? Rusty certainly thinks so!
Crazy Train Musical
When I was a child I went to see Starlight Express in 1996. Won over in only the way a 7-year-old can be by a theatre full of people on roller skates pretending to be trains, I took my glossy program with me everywhere for months...
